WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We will continue reviewing Wine of Moldova, and we’ll stick to the wine blend theme for a while. The wine that we’ve chosen is a very special one – it is produced in a quite limited edition of only 2270 bottles, it is regarded as one of the best wines of Moldova and it is made by one of the most well known winemakers from Moldova – Echinoctius 2009 from Equinox.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
Visual
The wine has a quite opaque, noble garnet color, with the rim-color of a pale garnet shade.
Olfactory
The nose is clean and strong with no signs of wine faults. The first nose reveals strong notes of dried red fruits – dried red cherry, dried red currant and raisins, then come the secondary aroma of ripe sour cherry, black cherry and black mulberry. Then, as an epilogue, come the mesmerizing aroma of black currant jam, black mulberry jam and sun dried wood.
Gustatory
The wine is dry with no hint of residual sugar and a quite balanced alcohol level. It is a very well structured wine, complex and amazingly harmonious. Moderate acidity and dry, velvety tannin make it taste a bit woody with pronounced ripe red dried fruits notes. The wine is well balanced, elegant and refined with a very clear, fruit-forward profile.
Aftertaste
The wine has a quite long finish, long enough to make you fall in love with it’s velvety and fruity aftertaste. It is exactly that kind of wine you hope to taste, every time you uncork a new bottle.
This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.0 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, we do want to highlight this wine’s profile – new world style, fruit-forward wine of a premium quality. It is definitely one of the top wines from Moldova and one of the best wines we’ve tasted to date – a wine that could be easily compared to some of world’s best wine blends, especially to those from the new world. A great wine indeed and a fine example of the potential that lies in the hands and minds of Moldova‘s finest winemaker’s.
