WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to taste Wine of Moldova, but this time we’ve decided to leave the wine blend theme and switch to the most famous red grape variety – cabernet sauvignon. We’ve already mentioned that there are many good to very good cabernet sauvignon wines in Moldova and, to be honest, we’ve had quite a hard time choosing one, again, and here it is – Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 from Vinaria Nobila.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a noble-pure garnet color, it is dense and quite opaque, with the rim-color on the garnet-purple side of the spectrum.
The nose is clean and strong with no signs of wine faults. The first nose reveals strong notes of red fruits – sour cherry, red plum, red currant, candied sour cherry, cranberry and even pomegranate, then come the more subtle, secondary aroma, those of dried sour cherry, red spice pepper and a very smooth flavor of a medium roasted wood, a clear tell that the wine was oak-aged.
The wine is dry but crisp, with no signs of residual sugar, it has moderate, nicely integrated alcohol level, high acidity and dry tannin, that makes it taste seedy and a little austere. The overall balance is very good with just a slight tannic vector and a lush, smooth and friendly, fruit-forward profile. This is a refined, round and juicy wine, with a clear new world soul within.
The wine has a quite long, sour-sweet finish, with a velvety aftertaste that lasts quite a while, very delicate and fruity, with a pronounced sour cherry accent.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.3 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, we’d like to point out at how well this wine highlights the overall potential of a cabernet sauvignon from Moldova – fruit-forward, new world style, strong flavor, sharp, well balanced palate and a very delicate aftertaste – and this is just the beginning of the story – this wine is part of the very first release from the winemaker’s cellars, but already a heavyweight on the Moldova‘s market.
