We continue to review Wine of Moldova, and we are back to the wine blend theme for a reason. The wine that we’ve chosen to review tonight is a legendary one – it is produced in a very limited edition and it’s blending formula is unique for every vintage, as it depends on the quality of every grape element, that’s why this wine is regarded as one of the best wines of Moldova – 5 Elemente 2011 from Equinox.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
Visual
The wine has an opaque but deep-noble garnet color, with the rim-color of a pale garnet shade.
Olfactory
The nose is clean and strong with no signs of wine faults. The first nose reveals very strong and powerful notes of ripe red and black fruits – sour cherry, black cherry, blue plum, overripe sweet cherry, black mulberry and dried cherry. Then, as an epilogue, come the mesmerizing aroma of a medium roasted wood, black and red pepper and some noble notes of black tea.
Gustatory
The wine is dry with no hints of residual sugar, it has medium, quite balanced alcohol level. It’s a very well structured wine, complex and amazingly harmonious. High acidity and dry, but smooth, tannin make it taste silky, round and friendly. The wine taste quite fruity and delicious, with pronounced, ripe red and sour cherry notes. The wine is well balanced, elegant and refined, with a very clear, fruit-forward profile. This is a rich and expressive wine, it has character and it definitely has class.
Aftertaste
The wine has a quite long finish, long enough to make you fall in love with it’s velvety and fruity aftertaste. This is a wine to be remembered – elegant, rich and harmonious – you just cannot throw it out of your head, no matter how hard you will try, at least not today.
This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.5 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, how can we not mention that fact, that for a couple of years now, this is the fastest selling wine in Moldova – it is sold out in less than four weeks time from the moment it is available in the wine shops. Its history is amazing – in just a couple of years of existence, this wine became a legend alive – a symbol for quality and tradition, a Wine of Moldova in its prime.
