WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

We will continue reviewing Wine of Moldova for the time being, and we will stick to the rosé wine theme for a while, because we believe this is the perfect wine for bidding farewell to the lost summer days – refreshing when it’s sunny, crisp when it’s rainy and bitter-sweet when it’s windy outside. The wine we’ve chosen for the review is so popular that it needs no further introduction – Rosé de Purcari 2014 from Chateau Purcari. Yes, you guessed it right – the time has come to review the famous 2014 vintage – the one that won several major international awards – but more about that at the end of the review, now let’s do the tasting.

Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:

The wine has an eye-pleasing, deep salmon-pink color, with the rim-color of a clear pearl shade.

The nose is strong and delicious, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose brings strong notes of sweet fruits and berries: strawberry, raspberry, watermelon, sicilian orange, cranberry, red currant, sweet cherry and some pleasant notes of a fresh cut red bell pepper – all the smells of spring and summer, mixed up inside your glass.

The wine is dry with no hints of residual sugar. It has moderate alcohol level, high-plus acidity and dry tannin, which makes the wine taste a bit tart and a bit bitter, but fresh and rich. The overall balance is good – the wine is elegant, fruity and amazingly intense – this wine is dominating over you from the first sip, you cannot deny it, you either love it or hate it.

The wine has long finish with a velvety, but at the same time a bit sharp, aftertaste – you may compare it to an arrogant, but honest and trustworthy old friend of yours.

chartsThis is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.0 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, we would really want to highlight that fact that this wine has been already awarded a silver medal by Decanter World Wine Awards, another silver medal by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, a bronze medal by International Wine & Spirit Competition and another bronze medal by Challenge International du Vin – four of the world’s most appreciated wine-tasting competitions – quite an achievement, don’t you agree. Also, we haven’t mentioned all the accolades that were awarded to the previous vintages of this same wine. To sum it up – this is definitely one of the best rosé wines we’ve tasted to date, and it is definitely there, at the summit, among the elite.
