WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

The time has come to review a wine from a world renown winemaking zone, a wine quite different and special in its own way, a Wine of Portugal –  Reserva Douro 2010 from Quinta de la Rosa. This wine comes from one of the most famous winemaking zones in the world – the Douro Valley, and it’s made mainly of touriga nacional, with some touriga franca and tinta roriz grape varieties – all of them 100% Portugal indigenous varieties.

Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:

The wine has a clear garnet color – quite intense and dense, with the rim-color of a clear purple shade.

Olfactory

The nose is clean and rich, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose bring nuanced notes of black fruits: sour cherry, black currant, pomegranate, black plum, black jostaberry, blackberry and black cherry . After a while the nose is delighted with some noble notes of charred wood and a heavy roasted oakwood – a clear tell of barique maturation.

Gustatory

The wine is bone dry, with no signs of residual sugar. It has high alcohol level, high acidity and dry tannin. The overall balance is fair, were acidity is the dominant element, followed by the alcohol content. The wine tastes bitter-seedy, with quite green tannin and zesty mouth-feel. This is an old-world wine, with a rebel soul, as it tends to taste like a new-world wine – extracted, angular and woody.

Aftertaste

The wine has a medium finish, with a balanced, just a little tart, aftertaste – it feels quite nuanced and rich.
