WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to review Wine of Moldova, but we change the vector a bit towards the white wine theme. The wine that we’ve selected for today’s tasting is quite well known here in Moldova and is growing in popularity with each passing day, so we’ve decided to give it a go as long as it is still young and
beautiful fresh – Sauvignon Blanc 2014 from F’autor.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a pure, green-to-yellow color: a brilliant green shade and a translucent yellow rim-color.
The nose is rich with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is delicate and insistent, with nuanced savory notes, sweet fruits and citrus: green grass, yellow pear, green bell pepper, green apple, lemon, quince, white grapefruit, almonds, straw grass, some hints of wormwood, limestone and subtle but insistent notes of moist wood.
The wine is dry, with maybe just some subtle hints of residual sugar. It has moderate alcohol level, high acidity and dry tannin, which makes the wine taste bitter-seedy, a bit wide, fresh and crisp, where acidity is the dominant element. The overall balance is good, this is a refreshing, young and friendly wine, which casts memories of countryside, with notes of green grass, bell pepper and straw. This wine is noting less than a flashback into the mid-summer.
The wine has a medium-plus finish and a balanced aftertaste, savory and fresh at the same time.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that this is a top sauvignon blanc wine, that is truly leaving up to its first name – ‘sauvage’, which means ‘wild’. Also, there’s a reason to be proud of – this wine was well appreciated outside of Moldova‘s borders, it has been awarded a bronze medal at Decanter World Wine Awards, the most influential wine tasting competition in the world of wine. This is a great achievement indeed, and as we’ve stated before, all you have to do as a consumer is to keep calm and drink Wine of Moldova.
