WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. Still on Wine of Romania and sticking with the world’s most famous grape variety – the king among red grape varieties – the noble cabernet sauvignon. There are many top quality cabernet sauvignon wines in Romania, but among them, there is one that stands tall, like the ancient Colossus of Rhodes, that’s why we’ve decided to bring it on WineStatistics – Soare Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 from Vinarte. If you’ve never heard of this wine before, well, here we are – bringing it closer to you, saving your time and money. In fact, this wine is considered by experts the best cabernet sauvignon wine from Romania, but enough theory – let the tasting do the talking.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
Visual
The wine has a deep and opaque ruby color, with some noble garnet shades towards the rim.
Olfactory
The nose is strong and elegant, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is filled with ripe red fruits and some nuanced savory hints: red currant, sour cherry, leather, carnations, blackberry, wild cherry, cloves, red pepper, wildberry and some hints of raw meat. A bit later the nose is delighted with hints of roasted wood, violets and nutmeg – elegant and velvety.
Gustatory
The wine is dry, with no signs of residual sugar. It has high, but well integrated alcohol level, high acidity and dry tannin. This is a meaty, leathery and bold wine, with a nuanced old-world profile – it has a good overall balance, the wine tastes seedy and it feels quite balanced, complex and structured. This is a fine cabernet sauvignon wine – it is that kind of wine one hopes to find every time a bottle is uncorked.
Aftertaste
The wine has a long finish and a velvety aftertaste. It feels bitter-seedy, leathery and quite spicy towards the end, and it leaves a very pleasing sensation overall.
This is definitely a great Wine of Romania and the overall rating says the same, with 91.9 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Conclusion: this is a classic old-world wine, which mixes amazingly well ripe fruits and leather, with a spicy finish to round up its profile. The wine is definitely on its peak form, but at the same time it has high acidity and enough ripe tannin to make it worth for more bottle ageing. We would strongly recommend to plan in advance the serving of this wine, as it requires to be decanted for at least 45 minutes and a medium-rare beef meal, to discover its full organoleptic profile.
