WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

Switching to Wine of America and continuing with the world’s most in-demand grape variety – the noble cabernet sauvignon. There is no way one can choose one single cabernet sauvignon wine from USA, as there are dozens and even hundreds of top quality cabernet sauvignon wines, but even among them, one name stands tall, and we’ve decided to bring it on WineStatistics – Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 from Robert Mondavi Winery. Mondavi wines are rightly considered as points of reference for those who aim high, both, winemakers and wine enthusiasts, a kind of trendsetters if you want,  but enough theory – let the tasting do the talking.

Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:

The wine has a clear and transparent garnet color, with some noble ruby shades towards the rim of the glass.

Olfactory

The nose is strong and elegant, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is filled with ripe black fruits and some quite nuanced spicy hints: black currant, black cherry, black plum, blackberry, wild cherry, overripe sour cherry, cloves, red pepper, nutmeg, roasted wood and some hints of coffee – quite elegant and mesmerizing.

Gustatory

The wine is extra-dry, with no signs of residual sugar. It has high, but well integrated alcohol level, high acidity and dry tannin. This is a new-world style, fruity but bold, and quite spicy wine. The wine has a good overall balance, it feels woody, hot and extracted. This is a fine cabernet sauvignon wine – fruit-forward and fine-oaked – it is that kind of wine one hopes to find every time a bottle is uncorked.

Aftertaste

The wine has a long finish and a balanced aftertaste. It feels a bit bitter and spicy towards the end, and it leaves a very pleasing sensation overall.

chartsThis is definitely a great Wine of America and the overall rating says the same, with 91.0 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

Conclusion: this is a classic new-world wine, which mixes amazingly well ripe fruits and moderate oak, with a spicy finish to round up its profile. The wine is definitely on its peak form, but at the same time it has high acidity and enough ripe tannin to make it worth for more bottle ageing. We would strongly recommend this wine for those who want to get into top quality California wines on a budget, as it has all the prerequisites to deliver all the local terroir, while at the same time, it will not break your bank account.
