WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Still discovering Wine of Moldova and heading directly towards the crémant wine theme – that creamy and fizzy wine style that is so popular in every corner of the world. The wine that we are reviewing tonight is made in a classic, méthode champenoise style, exactly the same way as original champagne is being made in France, the only difference is that it is made of only two of the official allowed champagne grape varieties – pinot blanc and chardonnay. Tonight we are going to review the lesser known Spumant Clasic Alb Brut de Lux from Cricova.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a clear topaz yellow color, bright and transparent, with the rim color displaying deep yellow shades.
The nose is rich and insistent, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose brings notes of sweet stone fruits and citrus: quince, yellow pear, yellow apple, lemon, straw grass, pomelo, grapefruit and a noble hint of cashew.
The wine is dry, with high, but well integrated alcohol level, high acidity and dry tannin. It tastes bitter-crisp, green and savory at the same time. It feels a bit angular, but quite refreshing and elegant. The wine has a fair overall balance, with tannin being the dominant element.
The wine has a medium-plus, green and crisp aftertaste – it is quite refined and refreshing.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.6 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Conclusion: this wine does not lack in character nor structure. It has a quite nuanced savory-green profile and a very pleasant crisp finish. It is a wine made for those who do appreciate the Brut style, a wine that can be served as an aperitif or as a stand-alone drink – a wine that can suit very nicely any Christmas eve table. Did we mention that sparkling wine is a very good pairing partner for a wide range of foods? Just try it yourself – you will be as much amazed as we are.
