ET CETERA | Cuvee Blanc | 2014
sauvignon blanc | pinot blanc | chardonnay
WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Tonight we are going to review a white wine blend that is made of three different grape varieties. Blending is a technique widely used in winemaking that is meant to improve the overall balance of the wine. Usually there are only two or three varieties used in a blend, but sometimes, on very rare occasions, there may be more, when a certain level of complexity is meant to be achieved. But enough theory, let’s get back to the wine we’ve selected for the review tonight – Cuvee Blanc 2014 from Et Cetera.

Take a look at the tasting notes bellow and our detailed assessment of the wine:
Visual
Deep yellow color with nuanced pastel yellow hues towards the rim.
Olfactory
The nose is rich, filled mostly with citrus fruit: yellow apple, dried melon, yellow tomato, underripe sun dried oakwood, dried apple, walnut, acacia flower, straw grass, orange, raisin and a nuanced scent of toasted bread.
Gustatory
The wine is medium-dry, with moderate alcohol level, strong acidity and firm tannin. It tastes bitter-seedy, quite tannic and woody, with a slightly oxidative accent. This is a mellow and delicate wine, with a fair overall balance between fruit, barrique and minerality.
Aftertaste
It has a medium finish and a balanced, a bit bit and a bit tart, aftertaste.

This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 88.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.
Conclusion: this is a quite tart and tannic white wine, one that is definitely over its prime, not worth any more ageing, as it is a wine on the decline slope. It has a very nice minerality and a nuanced citrusy profile and we would recommend to pair this wine with some baked white fish or some grilled avocado, as the later is an epic pairing indeed.
