WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

Tonight we present you one of the stars of crémant wines made in Moldova – Cuvée de Purcari Rosé Brut from Purcari. It is made of two classic varieties – pinot noir and chardonnay, from the three main grape varieties allowed in the Champagne region, with long term fermentation taking place in the bottle, a process that provides some soft and persistent pearling. This wine is part of a mini set of three sparkling wines, which are as well the first crémant wines offered by the winemaker. Without further ado, let’s get straight to the tasting and find out how good this wine is.

The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruits flavours: white cherry, red delicious apple, cranberry, wolfberry, raspberry, sicilia orange, red mirabelle, grapefruit, lemon, pink mulberry, homemade butter and some delicate hints of yeast.

The wine is dry, with moderate alcohol level, high acidity and firm tannin. It tastes seedy, expressive and quite bold, with a nuanced buttery-yeasty accent. This is a quite smooth, silky and fresh wine with a quite fair overall balance.

It has a medium finish and a balanced, bitter-crisp aftertaste.

chartsThis is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.3 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

Conclusion: this is a wine in its peak form – crisp, fresh and well structured, with a quite smooth and supple body. Drink it now, as this is the optimal time, or in the next 12 months, as there’s no reason for any more bottle ageing. To be honest, this is one of the best rosé crémant wines we’ve tasted so far – extremely refreshing and appealing. We would recommend to enjoy this wine standalone, in order to explore its flavour profile without any distractions or pair it with creamy dishes, like for example cordon bleu or chicken & bacon pasta. Enjoy!
