WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

Tonight we are going to review that one rosé wine, that raises the bar higher and higher with every new vintage – Rosé de Purcari 2017 by Purcari. This wine is a blend made of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and rara neagra grape varieties and is regarded by many as the best rosé blend from Moldova. The grapes are harvested by hand in the famous Stefan-Voda region, in the proximity of Purcari village. And because this wine needs no further introduction, without further ado, let’s skip the theory and move onto the tasting!

The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet and berry fruits flavours: raspberry, ripe cranberry, sweet cherry, strawberry, ripe wolfberry, loganberry, pink mulberry, peach, red apple, redcurrant, berberry, boysenberry and cherry blossom.

The wine is dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and ripe tannin. It tastes crisp, fruity and elegant with a very appealing mouthfeel. This is an extracted, delicious and well structured rosé wine, with nuanced crispness and a harmonious body. The wine has a fair overall balance, as it feels fresh, firm and quite complex. In our opinion, this is a very fine rosé wine – one of the best we’ve ever tasted – a real crowd pleaser.

chartsThis is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 91.5 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

Conclusion: this is a fine rosé wine in its prime form: ripe, crips and very appealing, with a nuanced seedy-zesty accent. We would suggest to drink it now, as long as it is still young and beautiful, as we strongly believe that it is always better to drink a wine a year too soon than a day too late. This is one of the best rosé wines we’ve tasted so far – elegant and fruity, with an immersion of flavour saturation across the palate. We would suggest to pair it with a genuine shrimp saganaki or salmon cream cheese spread. Enjoy!
