WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

Tonight we are going to review an amazing wine blend – Aurore Feteasca Neagra – Tempranillo 2016 by Fáutor Winery. The blend itself is intriguing, as it is made of an indigenous variety – feteasca neagra – which is responsible for the main body and structure, and an international variety – tempranillo – which brings more muscles and adds the much desired fruity character to the final blend. The wine is part of the Aurore wine series, which is made of wines that are capable to reflect all the terroir of the Valul lui Traian wine region. But let’s not get carried away by all that theory – on to the tasting!

Visual
Deep and noble, but not opaque ruby color, with hazy garnet-crimson hues towards the rim of the glass.

Olfactory

The nose is strong, filled mostly with black fruit flavours: blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, black raspberry, black mulberry and cherry tree wood. An instant later the nose is filled with elegant notes of roasted oakwood, black pepper, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, tobacco and some subtle hints of vanilla.

Gustatory

The wine is dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and ripe tannin. It tastes fruity, plump and ripe, with a noble and round body, crisp acidity and a nice seedy accent. This is a lean, opulent and supple wine blend, as it feels fine, balanced and elegant. Overall, the wine has a good balance between primary fruit and secondary aromas and it creates the impression of a quite appealing and well settled wine.

Aftertaste

The wine has a long finish and an balanced, seedy-tart aftertaste.

chartsThis is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 91.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Please click on the chart icon on the left in order to get to the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines we’ve tasted to date.

Conclusion: this is a very fine wine blend that is still on the rise – fruity, elegant and ripe – a wine that is almost in its prime form. It can resist a couple more months of bottle ageing (up to 12 months), yet we would not recommend it, as this is a fine example of a wine that should be enjoyed right here and right now. It may lack a bit of character and structure, but remember this: there are wines that might gain some elegance with age, while losing most of its flamboyance, but there are also wines that are elegant in their youth and age will take its toll on them. Our suggestion is to pair this wine with dishes that are rich in natural-meaty flavours, like for example a rare sirloin steak. Enjoy!
