Today we are going to review a wine that is neither new nor old, yet it is still relatively unnoticed by the wine lovers – *310 Altitudine Chardonnay – Feteasca Regala 2018 from Fautor Winery. This wine is a white blend made of 2 elegant varieties: chardonnay, which is responsible for the wine’s main body and structure, and feteasca regala, which adds more flavour and complexity to the final blend. The wine is part of the *310 Altitudine wine series, that consists mainly of fresh and easy to drink wines, that can be enjoyed by anyone, from wine enthusiasts to wine connoisseurs. But let’s skip all that boring theory and, without further ado, let’s move on – straight to the tasting!

Visual
Pale, straw-white color with slightly greenish shades towards the rim of the glass.

Olfactory
The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruits flavours mixed with some floral-tropical hints: ripe white pear, white nectarine, white apricot, overripe gooseberry, ripe white apple, overripe quince, pineapple, ripe lemon, white grapefruit, lindenflower, physalis, daffodil, honeysuckle, straw grass and some notes of pineapple and pear candy.

Gustatory
The wine is dry, with high alcohol level, high acidity and ripe tannin. It tastes fruity-zesty, smooth and lush, with a nuanced seedy-ripe accent. This is a very appealing, round and refreshing wine with a nice tropical profile, as it feels bitter-crisp and noble, with a fair overall balance and a quite rich and chewy body.

Aftertaste
It has a medium-plus finish and a balanced, smooth and zesty aftertaste.

This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Conclusion: this is a very refreshing wine that is right there, at the summit of its prime form, ready to drink now or in the next 3-6 months. The wine may be just a bit off its balance, but make no mistake here – this is a very fine blend: rich, zesty with a nuanced fruity-tropical profile, round body and quite chewy mouthfeel. Just keep in mind that it is always better to drink  wine a year to soon than a day too late. In order to amplify its aromatics, we would suggest to pair this wine with garlic & butter shrimp zucchini noodles or some fresh oysters with just a splash of lemon juice on it. Enjoy!
