Tonight we are going to review a quite intriguing wine with the label Made in MoldovaFeteasca Alba 2018 by Gogu Winery. Feteasca Alba is a very old indigenous variety, as it dates back for almost two thousand years and is a variety that is little known outside of Moldova and Romania. Feteasca Alba wines stand out from the crowd mostly due to their finesse and a delicate balance and it is mainly used in production of still dry wines. This is a variety that is very famous in Romania, a variety that is not yet explored at its true potential here, in Moldova. That said, without further ado, let’s move on straight to the tasting!

The nose is strong, filled mostly with sweet fruit flavours: pear, quince, peach, ripe gooseberry, white apple, lemon, pineapple, acacia blossom, elderflower, apricot, fresh cut grass, wormwood and currant leaf.

The wine is medium-dry, with medium  alcohol level, high acidity and firm tannins. It tastes lush, plump and crisp, with a nuanced fruity-floral profile. The wine has a quite lean and appealing palate, with a round and full-bodied mouthfeel. Overall this is an elegant, well structured and complex feteasca alba wine, with a fair overall balance and a bitter-crisp, noble and quite chewy plate – a fine wine indeed.

Conclusion: this is a very fine and refreshing feteasca alba wine that is right there, at the summit of its prime form – a wine that can age for another year in the bottle. It feels well balanced and quite complex, with a lean and round palate – this is a wine that is very appealing, with nuanced fruity flavors and insistent floral hints. In our humble opinion, this wine is a match made in heaven for seafood dishes with creamy textures, like for example lobster bisque or mahi mahi. Cheers!
