We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

The other wine we are going to review today is a single varietal rara neagra wine, which is an indigenous moldovan variety with romanian origins – Rara Neagra de Purcari 2018 by Purcari. Rara Neagra is also known as babeasca neagra and is famous for its ability to highlight aspects of terroir and it usually produces wines with light body, velvety tannins and high acidity, with nuanced notes of red fruits and subtle leather flavours. That said, without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

Verdict: this is a quite fine rara neagra wine – fruity-savory, leathery and extremely appealing, with hints of residual sugar and a touch of alcoholic warmth showing through on the mouthfeel – a wine that is still youthful and slightly angular. We would suggest to rest it for another 6 or 12 months in the bottle, as this is a wine that will surely improve with just a bit more time in the bottle, just don’t overdo it, as enjoying it young and fresh is the better idea. It is hard to tell if this is a trademark rara neagra wine, because there are very few who do know what a blueprint rara neagra wine should taste like, but one thing is certain – this wine is round and lean, with hints of complexity and a very nice aromatic profile, where ripe red fruits glide well alongside those sweet vanilla notes.
