We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

The wine we are going to review tonight is quite special – Surori 2019 by Gitana Winery. This is a rosé blend made of saperavi and rara neagra grapes – two of the most seldom used varieties in a rosé wine. The wine is named after the two sisters, Liliana and Iuliana Dulgher, also pointing at the two varieties picked for the blend – one flamboyant and expressive and the other delicate and subtle. With grapes harvested by hand in the Valul lui Traian region, and with 25 days of ageing on fine lees, this wine is meant to capture the character of its area of origin. That said, without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a fine wine of Moldova and, with a total of 91.3 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a very fine and quite aromatic rosé wine that is right there, at the summit of its prime form. It feels jammy and sweet, with nuanced hints of raisins and quince jam. The wine tastes supple, round and rich, with a crisp and very appealing palate and a bitter-seedy aftertaste. Due to the two unusual grape varieties that were used in the blend, this is a quite memorable rosé wine – nicely structured, well balanced and refreshing, that is maybe just a bit on the sweet side of the dry spectrum. Enjoy!
