We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to review a single varietal pinot noir wine from the Valul lui Traian region, in the south-west of Moldova – Larga Pinot Noir 2018 by Larga Valley – a new name on the local wine market. Pinot Noir is the most sought after wine, a variety that is very difficult to grow, as the grape itself is vulnerable, suffering from a variety of diseases and its genetics make it highly susceptible to mutation. Despite the difficulty in growing the grape, pinot noir is capable of producing the very best expressions of terrior and in fact, this is the sole reason why pinot noir is so much appreciated all over the world. That said, without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a good wine of Moldova and, with a total of 90.3 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a very good pinot noir wine with a nuanced fruity-spicy accent – a wine that is still too young, as it has yet to reach its prime form, thus one that can age for another year or two in the bottle. It tastes seedy, tart and bitter, with a touch of alcoholic warmth showing through on the mouthfeel and tannic-green, slightly spicy finale. The wine feels round but rough at the same time, with a quite muscular palate and very nuanced, even overwhelming acidity, that makes the fine taste crisp and firm. With a ripe tannic grip and a quite extracted spicy profile, this wine does not lack in complexity nor structure, it is in fact one of the boldest pinot noir wines.
