We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.
Today we are going to review a single varietal viorica wine, which is an indigenous local variety – a hybrid grape, made by crossing the two red varieties: seibel and aleatico – Fiori Viorica 2018 by Radacini. Viorica is a rare, light-skinned white grape variety that is little known outside of Moldova, as it is mainly used in production of sparkling and table wines. It was long considered the visit card of Moldova’s wines, as it is distinguished by an expressive and intense aromatic bouquet, reminiscent of wild flowers and sweet fruits. Viorica is traditionally vinified off-dry or semi-sweet due to its nuanced aromatics, resulting in truly unique and flamboyant wines. It is a variety with a strong personality, citrusy-floral on the nose, with a touch of honey – a variety that has only recently been introduced to international wine lovers, and it does make some noise now. That said, without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very nice viorica wine that is right there, at the peak of its form: light, lean and refreshingly crisp. The wine feel slightly opulent and fair, mostly due to lack of structure, still this is a quite supple and round wine, with nicely integrated acidity and overwhelming alcoholic warmth. It has a nuanced fruity-herbal profile and a very appealing floral accent, with a slightly bitter-seedy finale and some subtle hints of honey in there. Overall the wine feels very refined and elegant. We would recommend to drink this wine today or in the next 3 to 6 months, as it is not meant for long-term bottle ageing. Take a sip and enjoy!
