We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

The wine that we are going to review today is quite special, as this is a single-varietal dornfelder wine from the Germany’s famous Pfalz region – Loosen Up Dornfelder Pfalz 2018 by Dr.Loosen. Dornfelder is a Germany red grape variety, highly pigmented, with thick black skins that usually makes very juicy, fruit-driven and deeply coloured red wines, particularly in Pfalz and Rheinhessen regions. It is easier to grow and ripen than Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) or Lemberger and can also yield heavily if needed. Dornfelder is usually made in one of the two styles: either as a very youthful, fresh and fruit forward wine that can be enjoyed young, or as a more austere red wine that is tamed by oak and time – one that can deliver structure and firmness. That said, without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very juicy and explosive dornfelder wine – extremely fruity, light and lean – a wine that is still on the rise, yet very close to its prime form, therefore drink now or in the next 12 months. It tastes rich, round and sweet, with a very smooth and slightly opulent body, mouth-watering acidity and just a touch of alcoholic warmth on the mouthfeel – this wine is a real crowd-pleaser, one that maybe lacks just a bit of structure and complexity. On our memory, this is one of the most intriguing and flamboyant wines that we’ve tasted so far, made in a pronounced fruit-forward and explosive style – an extremely appealing red wine that is meant to be enjoyed young. We can only suggest you to get one yourself and experience the deep summer in the glass: ripe blue fruits, mesmerizing fruit candy and some noble floral hints of violets and lavender – a truly delicious wine this is. Enjoy!
