We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are also going to review a wine that has been released on the local market relatively recently – Viorica & Pinot Grigio 2019 by Domeniile Davidescu. This wine is a blend of pinot gris and viorica grape varieties, where pinot gris is responsible for the main body and structure, while viorica adds more flavour and build up the aromatics foreground. The grapes are sourced from the famous Valul lui Traian region and are grown mostly on clay and loam soils. The producer’s aim is to mix tradition with technology by producing crisp and easy to drink wines that will deliver freshness and up-front richness to any table. That said, without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very crisp and quite aromatic wine blend that is right there, at the summit of its prime form – a wine that should not be aged and enjoyed today rather than tomorrow. It feels quite lush, appealing and refreshingly zesty, with a nuanced citrusy-floral profile, overwhelming alcoholic warmth on the mouthfeel and a seedy-green finale. This a quite opulent, lean and round wine, with some nuanced notes of overripe sweet and stone fruits and a quite thin, fair and simple body. What this wine lacks is just a bit of structure and harmony between its components. All in all, the wine feels a bit off the balance, mostly due to the alcohol and insistent acidity, which makes it a perfect food pairing partner for flavoured fish dishes, like for example oven-baked salmon or grilled dorada.
