Today we are going to review a quite intriguing wine – Sauvignon Blanc 2019 by Terra Dacia – a new name on the local market. This wine here is a single varietal sauvignon blanc wine from the famous Stefan-Voda region. Sauvignon Blanc is a very old grape variety and it translates from french as ‘wild white‘, which is in fact the essence of this variety – the wilderness. What makes it different from its peers are those unique herbaceous flavors, reminiscent of green bell pepper, currant leaf, gooseberry and fresh cut grass – all these flavors come from aromatic compounds called pyrazines. But let’s get rid of all that theory and without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results and find out how good this wine really is.

Verdict: this is a very lean and opulent sauvignon blanc wine, one that is right there, at the summit of its prime form. It feels crisp, flabby and slightly wide, with a very refreshing character and a nuanced citrusy-herbal profile. The wine is very light in body and therefore quite appealing and easy to enjoy, with pronounced hints of herbaceous aromatics in the background. It tastes round and smooth, with a slightly angular mid-plate and a seedy-green finale. What makes this wine stand apart from its peers is the aromatic profile, as it has an explosive nose, with nuanced floral notes in the foreground and some hints of tropical fruits in the background. You can drink it stand alone, as an aperitif on a hot summer evening or paired with light seafood dishes, like for example steamed mussels with lemon-garlic dressing.
