Today we are going to review a very special wine, one that took the local market by storm from day one – Blanca Cuvée 2020 by Fáutor Winery. This wine is a blend of albariño, feteasca regala and pinot gris grape varieties, where albariño (that makes 90% of the blend) forms the main body and structure, bringing in the process refreshing natural acidity, feteasca regala adds up-front richness and brings floral notes to the foreground, while pinot gris rounds up and smoothens the final blend. The grapes are sourced from the Romanesti area, in the Valul lui Traian wine region, while the wine’s blending formula is a statement, that this wine is designed to conquer hearts and minds of the wine lovers. That said, without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

This is definitely a great wine of Moldova and with a total of 92.5 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a very fine albariño-based wine blend, one that is right there, at the peak of its prime form: refreshingly crisp, zingy and extremely appealing. The wine is very light in body, with mouth-watering acidity and a very aromatic, fruity-herbal accent. It tastes crisp, light and very refreshing, with a citrusy-zesty finale and some subtle hints of minerality. This is a quite refined and elegant wine blend that is meant to be consumed young. We would recommend to drink this wine today in order to enjoy it at its finest, as this is definitely one of Moldova’s best white wines from the 2020 harvest: fresh and crisp, exactly what you’d expect from an albariño-based wine blend.
