We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to perform another trip into the past and re-evaluate a wine that is rightly considered among the best red wines from Romania – Soare Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 by Domaine Vinarte. The constant search for perfection makes this wine a real classic – a single-varietal cabernet sauvignon wine that comes from the famous Samburesti – Bolovanu vineyards, vinified in a classic Bordeaux style, with carefully selected, hand picked grapes and moderate use french oak (15 to 18 months in small barriques). As is the norm for this class of wines, production is limited to 3500 kg/ha, so that all the grapes reach optimal maturity. The wine is then bottled and aged in the cellar for an additional 6 months before its market release. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the results and find out how the wine has evolved since our last review.

96x96This is definitely a great wine of Romania and, with a total of 94.4 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Check our complete database on the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines that we have tasted and reviewed or go to the about us page and find out more about our exquisite rating system.

Verdict: this is a really great wine, definitely amongst the best we’ve tasted so far, vinified in a classic, old-world Bordeaux-style, it feels noble and elegant – a wine that can withstand another 4 or 5 more years of bottle ageing. It tastes round, firm and plump, with ripe and overripe black fruits in the foreground, leathery-savory hints in the background and a layer of tertiary notes (mainly violets and musk) in between, leading to a quite mesmerizing oaky-spicy finale. This is a wine that is mixing power with finesse as it has a very fine balance between all its elements: well integrated acidity, ripe and grippy tannins and just a touch of alcoholic warmth on the mouthfeel. If you never tasted this wine before, our recommendation is to get one of and enjoy. By the way, did we mention that this is the only romanian wines rated 91+ by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate?
