Today we are going to review a wine that conquered our hearts from the first sip – Sauvignon Blanc 2020 by Bahu Winery. This is a single-varietal sauvignon blanc wine from Bahu village situated in the Codru region of Moldova. Sauvignon Blanc is a very old grape variety that makes crisp, dry, aromatic and herbaceous wines that are popular all over the world and its name translates from french as ‘wild white‘, which is in fact the essence of this variety – the wilderness. What makes it different from its peers are those unique herbaceous flavors, reminiscent of green bell pepper, currant leaf, gooseberry and fresh cut grass – all these flavors come from aromatic compounds called pyrazines. That said and without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a nice wine of Moldova and with a total of 89.8 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a nice sauvignon blanc wine that is right there, at the peak of its form: lean, round and supple. It feels opulent on the palate, light and fresh on the mouthfeel, with an overwhelming alcohol warmth and a seedy-green finale – a wine that lacks some harmony and structure. With a fruity-herbal profile on the nose, the wine delivers green fruits and various herbs in the foreground, supported by some very subtle citrusy notes in the background. Overall this is a crisp and slightly seedy wine, with a slightly oily mouthfeel (mostly due to its pronounced alcohol level). Drink it today or in the next 3 months.
