We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to review yet another single-varietal pinot noir wine with the label ‘Made in Moldova‘ –  Taraboste Pur Aristocratic Pinot Noir 2019 by Château Vartely. The wine is part of the ‘Pur Aristocratic‘ series, which is the winemaker’s flagship line of premium quality wines. This particular wine has been aged for 15 months in new oak barrels in order to gain the much-desired complexity and structure on the palate. Pinot Noir has reached a legendary status over the last decades and today it is the most sought-after red wine in the world. The grape itself is quite vulnerable, suffering from a multitude of diseases and its genetics make it highly susceptible to mutation. But despite all the difficulty to grow pinot noir, when treated with utmost care, it is capable of producing the very best expressions of terrior. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a great wine of Moldova and, with a total of 93.7 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a gorgeous pinot noir wine: supple, round and firm at the same time – a wine that is still developing into the bottle, thus one that can resist another 3 to 5 years of bottle ageing. It tastes crisp and slightly green, delivering a mesmerizing mixture of red fruits, herbs and spice in the foreground, supported by some very subtle woody notes in the background. The wine feels very well balanced and harmonious, with firm but fine-grained tannins, slightly flat acidity and a touch of alcohol warmth showing through on the mouthfeel. This might be one of the best (if not ‘the best’) pinot noir wines from Moldova that we have tasted so far, as it has everything in place: a quite typical, fruity-herbaceous nose, a well structured palate, a grippy mouthfeel, a seedy-crisp finale and a very good ageing potential. Enjoy!
