Tonight we are going to review a single-varietal arneis wine from the Piedmont region of ItalyLanghe Arneis Muntbertin 2019 by Azienda Vitivinicola Mainerdo. Arneis is a low cropping white grape variety that originates in the Piedmont region (in the North-West of Italy), where it is most famously associated with the white wines of Roero, that sits just across the river from the famous Barolo, which earned Arneis the nickname of Barolo Bianco (white Barolo). Arneis is a very perfumed grape variety that produces quite fragrant, floral-scented wines with medium to full body and it is often blend with Nebbiolo to add a touch of sweetness and perfume. This particular wine has been aged for 7 months in steel tanks before being released on the market. That said, without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a fine wine of Italy and with a total of 91.4 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a very fine arneis wine that is right there, at the peak of its form: lean, round and supple, with refreshingly crisp acidity and a touch of alcoholic warmth on the mouthfeel. The wine feel slightly opulent and highly aromatic, with a light body, smooth-textured palate and a seedy-green finale. On the nose the wine feels very expressive, it starts with some very ripe, citrusy-floral notes in the foreground, supported by those nuanced herbal hints in the background. Overall this is a quite appealing and refined wine that maybe lacks just a bit of structure on the palate. Our recommendation would be to drink it today rather than tomorrow and pair it with naturally scented dishes, like for example mahi-mahi fillets or some arugula and pear salad with blue cheese. Cheers!
