We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to review a wine blend that comes from the Banu Maracine vineyards of the Dealurile Olteniei region – Duet Rosu 2017 by 7ARTS Winery. The winery’s first wine was released on the market in the 7th year after the whole vineyard’s surface was replanted in 2009, hence it’s name – 7ARTS. The blend itself is also intriguing, as it is made of two international grape varieties that contains high amounts of health-invigorating antioxidants: 40% syrah, which is responsible for color and body, and 60% cabernet sauvignon, which brings more muscles, structure and adds dark fruit flavours to the final blend. At 7ARTS all the red wines are aged exclusively in romanian oak. This one here has been aged for 12 months in oak barriques, from which 50% were new oak and 50% used oak at 2nd fill. Needless to mention that due to the winery size (30 ha), all the wines are produced in limited editions, with only 2900 bottles released for this particular wine. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a great wine of Romania and, with a total of 93.4 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a very supple and voluptuous wine blend that is still developing, thus one that definitely can withstand another 3 to 4 more years of bottle ageing. It feels rich and extracted, with a nuanced fruity-oaky accent and a crispy-grippy mouthfeel. On the palate, the wine delivers ripe, fine-grained tannins, exuberant acidity and a touch of alcoholic warmth on the mouthfeel. It has a quite nuanced, oaky-spicy accent, with a full body and very appealing, crisp aftertaste. On the nose the wine brings overripe & dried fruits in the foreground, supported by sweet spice and oak-derived notes in the background, with a very subtle, earthy layer in between the two. All in all, this is a very fine wine blend with a pronounced new-world character, expressive and well structured mouthfeel and a very rich flavour profile. We would recommend to pair it with spicy dishes, especially those with sweet sauce dressings. Cheers!
