We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are also going to review a wine blend, but this time one from MoldovaRevedere 2018 by Atú Winery. This wine is a blend of two grape varieties: the first one is saperavi, which is of georgian origin and is responsable for colour depth and flavour extract, and the other one is codrinschii, which forms the main body and structure of the wine and which was obtained by crossing the indigenous babeasca neagra variety with cabernet sauvignon in 1970 at the Institute of Wine and Vine of the Moldovan Soviet Republic and today, Atú Winery is the first and only producer to use this variety in its commercial wines. The wine we are reviewing today has been aged for 12 months in oak barrels and is dedicated to the famous poem written by Mihai EminescuRevedere, which praises the connection between man and nature, between energy and emotions. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a fine wine of Moldova and, with a total of 92.1 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Check our complete database on the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines that we have tasted and reviewed or go to the about us page and find out more about our exquisite rating system.

Verdict: this is a quite lean, supple and plump wine with a quite noble, spicy-oaky accent. The wine is still developing, therefore we would recommend to give it another 2 or 3 years of bottle ageing in order to allow it to develop further complexity. On the nose it brings a mixture of ripe red fruits and leathery notes in the foreground, followed by a very appealing, spicy-oaky background and a subtle, earthy layer in between. On the palate the wine delivers elevated acidity, ripe tannins and a touch of alcoholic warmth showing through on the mouthfeel, which leads to a crisp aftertaste. All in all, this is an expressive and well structured wine that is lacking just a bit of finesse and elegance on the palate. We would recommend to pair it with delicate, fat-rich meats, like for example a peppercorn-crusted fillet mignon. Cheers!
