We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are also going to review a single varietal sauvignon blanc wine from the Dealu Mare region in Muntenia Cuvee Alexandra 2021 by Crama Ferdi. Sauvignon Blanc is a very old grape variety that makes crisp, dry, aromatic and herbaceous wines that are popular all over the world and its name translates from french as ‘wild white‘, which is in fact the essence of this variety – the wilderness. What makes it different from its peers are those unique herbaceous flavors, reminiscent of green bell pepper, currant leaf, gooseberry and fresh cut grass – all these flavors come from aromatic compounds called pyrazines. That said and without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a fine wine of Romania and with a total of 91.6 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a quite supple and fresh sauvignon blanc wine, with a very expressive and aromatically rich nose. On the palate the wine displays slightly flat acidity, an overwhelming touch of alcoholic warmth showing through on the mouthfeel and a bitter-hot aftertaste. On the nose the wine delivers ripe green fruits and citrusy notes in the foreground, followed by a quite nuanced herbaceous background and a subtle floral layer in between the two. All in all, this is a very appealing and slightly angular sauvignon blanc wine, that is definitely in its prime and as thus, we would recommend to drink it now and enjoy it in all its flamboyance – a real crowd-pleaser of a wine. Cheers!
