This wine is a blend of two varieties that were sourced from two different regions: cabernet sauvignon (85%) and cabernet franc (15%). The vineyards are located in 3 valleys – Curicó Valley, Maule Valley and Colchagua Valley, where soils diversity and a the mediterranean-like climate with dry summers, radiant days and cool nights help the grapes attain their maximum potential. All the wines are conceived to maximize the unique expression of the terroir in each vineyard. 96x96This is definitely a great wine of Chile and, with a total of 93.4 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a quite firm and heady cabernet blend, with a bold and well structured mouthfeel. The wine is still developing, therefore we would recommend to give it 3 or 4 more years of bottle ageing, in order to enjoy it at its finest. On the nose the wine brings a mixture of ripe and overripe black fruits and some nuanced hints of brettanomyces in the foreground, followed by a spicy-oaky background and a very rustic, earthy layer in between the two. On the palate the wine delivers exuberant acidity, firm and ripe tannins and an overwhelming touch of alcoholic warmth showing through on the mouthfeel, which leads to a seedy-crisp aftertaste. All in all, this is a quite gamey and musky wine, with a nuanced, terroir-driven accent, yet a wine that is slightly off the balance, but still very enjoyable. Our recommendation is to pair it with umami-rich and delicate meats, like for example an extra-rare filet mignon steak or tournedos rossini. Enjoy!
