Today we are going to review a sparkling wine that has been released relatively recently on the local market – Maestro Cuvée Blanc Alb Brut by Imperial Vin. This sparkling wine made is made in a non-traditional tank method, also called méthode charmat and is a blend of 3 grape varieties: glera (the same grape variety from which the famous italian Prosecco wines are made from), chardonnay and sauvignon blanc, where chardonnay forms the wine’s main body and structure, glera brings more freshness due to its high natural acidity, while sauvignon blanc enhances the aromatic profile and delivers some smoothness on the mid-palate. That said and without further ado, let’s move on straight to the tasting results.

Verdict: this is a very nice sparkling wine that is quite close to the peak of its form – crisp, zesty and racy, with a nuanced, fruity-citrusy profile on the nose and a green, seedy accent on the palate. Overall the wine might lack some structure and finesse, nevertheless it feels nicely balanced and appealing. We would recommend to drink it today rather than tomorrow, as this wine is not meant for long term bottle ageing. All in all, this is a light, fresh and easy to sparkling drink wine, with elevated acidity, a touch of alcoholic warmth on the mouthfeel and just a hint of green bitterness in the aftertaste – a fair and enjoyable wine.
