We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to review a very rare wine from the famous Dealu Mare region – 10 Cuvée Ferdi Signature F 2018 by Crama Ferdi. This wine celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the first wine produced by Crama Ferdi, and is a secret blend of 4 grape varieties, which we have estimated to be: cabernet franc, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah, where cabernet franc forms the wine’s main body profile, cabernet sauvignon adds more boldness and structure, merlot brings up-front richness and rounds up the palate, whereas syrah deepens the color extract and delivers some spiciness to the final blend. This wine is a classic example of modern microvinification, with 18 months of oak ageing, it is produced in a very limited edition of only 570 bottles, each of which is signed personally by Fernando Marius Mihailescu, thus it is a rarity even in Romania. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a great wine of Romania and, with a total of 93.8 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Check our complete database on the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines that we have tasted and reviewed or go to the about us page and find out more about our exquisite rating system.

Verdict: this is a supple and plump and slightly angular wine blend, yet one of the finest we’ve tasted so far. This is a wine blend that definitely requires more time (at least 3 and up to 5 more years of bottle ageing) to develop and to allow it to get closer to its true potential. In its current state the wine feels voluptuous, ripe and seedy, with a complex and well structured palate. On the nose the wine brings a mixture of ripe and overripe red and black fruits in the foreground, followed by a very nuanced oaky accent in the background and an appealing spicy layer in between the two. On the palate the wine delivers crisp acidity, ripe tannins and an overwhelming touch of alcoholic warmth that is dominating the mouthfeel, which evolves into a crispy-hot finale. What this wine lacks today is some elegance and finesse on the palate, traits that will surely come with time spent in the bottle, as the potential is there. For the best food and wine experience, we would recommend to pair it with slightly spicy, naturally scented meats, like for example an extra-rare peppercorn fillet mignon. Enjoy!
