We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are also going to review another quite intriguing wine from the Târnave-Jidvei DOC region of RomaniaMysterium PN + CH + FA 2019 by Jidvei. This wine is a blend of three grape varieties: pinot noir (which is a red grape variety), chardonnay and feteasca alba (an old, indigenous romanian variety that dates back for almost two thousand years), where chardonnay forms the wine’s main body and structure, feteasca alba adds up-front richness and brings floral notes to the foreground, while pinot noir delivers the much desired crispness and rounds up the final blend. The final wine has been aged for 5 months on fine lees (‘sur lie‘ ageing) in stainless steel tanks and another 6 months in the bottle before deemed ready to be released on the market. That said and without further ado, let’s move on straight to our tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a great wine of Romania and with a total of 93.3 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Check our complete database on the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines that we have tasted and reviewed or go to the about us page and find out more about our exquisite rating system.

Verdict: this is a round, crisp and voluptuous white blend, with a very appealing nose and a supple and lean palate – it is all about harmony and finesse. The wine is right there, at the peak of its form, therefore we would recommend to drink it today rather than tomorrow, as we firmly believe that it is always better to drink a wine a year too soon than a day too late. On the nose the wine showcases ripe and overripe sweet fruits and citrus in the foreground, supported by some very subtle, floral and herbal notes in the background. On the palate the wine delivers mouth-watering acidity and just a touch of alcoholic warmth that is showing through on the mouthfeel. All in all, this is a very elegant and well structured wine blend that will pair nicely with creamy dishes, like for example creamy garlic penne pasta or crab pasta with lemon-butter sauce with garlic and white wine. Cheers!
