We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are are also going to review a single-varietal, but multi-vintage feteasca neagra wine blend from the famous Stefan Voda wine region of MoldovaFeteasca Neagra Multi-Vintage 2019 & 2021 by Te Wā Wines. Feteasca Neagra is an indigenous romanian variety that has been grown for hundreds of years on substantial plantings in the south of Moldova and eastern Muntenia and today, this is the most famous red variety in Romania. Wines made from feteasca neagra grapes are usually fruit-forward, complex and structured, wines that often are compared to merlot and cabernet franc, mostly due to their body, robust tannins and elegant textures. There is a rising demand for feteasca neagra wines on the regional as well as on the international markets and many wine experts consider this variety to be the visit card of romanian wines. As mentioned at the beginning of this review, this particular wine is a non-vintage wine, because it is a blend of two separate vintages of feteasca neagra grapes: the 2019 vintage (which we’ve already reviewed) and the 2021 vintage. That said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a fine wine of Moldova and, with a total of 92.9 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Verdict: this is a very plump, voluptuous and savory-delicate feteasca neagra wine that feels round, crisp and velvety-rustic. The wine is still in its development phase but very close to its prime form, therefore we would recommend to either drink it today or within the next 2-3 years, but make sure you don’t overdo it, as it is always better to drink a wine a year too soon than a day too late. On the nose the wine displays a mixture of ripe and overripe, blue and black fruit notes in the foreground, supported by a savory-leathery background and a subtle, spicy-earthy layer in between the two. On the palate the wine delivers crisp acidity, fine-grained but seedy tannins and a touch of alcoholic warmth that is showing through on the mouthfeel, which leads to an appealingly crisp aftertaste. All in all this is a rich, silky and slightly subtle feteasca neagra wine, with a very nice harmony between all its elements, where nothing is showing off – a wine that in its current state is lacking maybe just a bit of structure and complexity on the palate. We believe this wine will pair lovely with rustic or delicate meats, like for example Tournedos Rossini or peppercorn filet mignon steak. Enjoy!
