Another wine that we are going to review today is a single-varietal syrah that comes from the famous Villány appellation, which is Hungary‘s most famous wine region for red wines – Syrah 2018 by Gere Attila Winery. In a world where bolder is better, syrah is the perfect choice, as it is darker and spicier than cabernet sauvignon and contains a high amounts of health-invigorating antioxidants. Syrah, also known as Shiraz, can be vinified in two major styles: old-world style and new-world style. The old-world syrah wines tend to have more acidity and earthy-herbaceous aromas, while the new-world shiraz wines are usually fruit-driven with lots of spice and hints of smoke. The wine we are reviewing today is made with 100% syrah grapes, sourced from the winery’s Konkoly vineyard and, in order to soften the tannins and add a layer of extra complexity to the final blend, but at the same time, to preserve the varietal characteristic of the syrah grape variety, the wine has been aged for 16 months in used (second fill) oak barriques. But enough with all that theory, that said and without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

Pairing: Judging by the wine’s nuanced and rich flavor profile, we would recommend pairing it with an extra-rare filet mignon or tournedos rossini. The wine’s ample mouthfeel and velvety-rich palate will harmonize seamlessly with the tender and flavorful nature of the beef, while the ripe fruit flavors in the wine will be complemented by the sweet sauce. The savory and earthy undertones in the wine will enrich the depth of flavors in the filet mignon, thus highlighting the wine’s rustic delicacy. In the same key, the seedy-crisp aftertaste, coupled with the wine’s mouth-watering acidity, will provide a refreshing contrast to the silky fattiness of the filet mignon, ensuring a well-balanced and harmonious culinary experience. Enjoy!
