WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We are back to Wine of Moldova theme, and we’ve decided that it is time for some holiday mood – it is time for some rosé wine. This is a very delicate type of wine and we’ve decided to start with a legend alike – Firebird Legend Merlot Rosé 2009 from DK-Intertrade. This wine is export-oriented and is one of the pioneers of rosé wines in Moldova, it is hard to find, but once you get one, it’s worth the searching.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
Visual
The wine has a quite dense pink color – bright and transparent – with the rim-color of a pale salmon pink.
Olfactory
The nose is strong with some hints of cork taint in the beginning, but which disappears after just few minutes of aeration. The first nose brings sweet notes of fruit jam – strawberry jam, raspberry jam and white cherry jam. Then come secondary, sour notes of mirabelle prune and red apple.
Gustatory
The wine is medium-dry, with hints of residual sugar, medium-plus alcohol level, but very well integrated into the body, high acidity and medium tannin, which makes it taste crisp and zesty. The overall balance is good, with acidity being the dominant element, but not aggressive nor insistent as it may seem at first sight.
Aftertaste
The wine has a medium-long finish with a velvety aftertaste that reminds you of green pomegranate seeds. It is really impressive that it comes from a single variety (merlot) wine.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 88.8 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that this wine was awarded a bronze medal at International Wine & Spirit Competition, and even more, it also made a name for himself on international scene with previous vintages (some of them prized with silver and bronze), but what amazed us the most is how good this wine is after so many years of bottle age. The only regret we have is that we couldn’t get a 2013 vintage, but let’s look into positives – this only means that we will meet again sooner rather than later.
