WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to review Wine of Moldova and keep up with the white wine theme, but this time it’s different, this time we are going to review a white whine made of 100% cabernet sauvignon grapes, a ‘white red wine‘ some call it, but we prefer the term ‘blanc de cabernet’ – a technique, used by the winemakers, where the juice from the grape is separated from the skins and seeds as soon as possible to avoid pigmentation. But enough theory, the wine that we are reviewing today is Blanc de Cabernet 2012 from Albastrele Wines.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a bright, pure yellow-green color, with a translucent white-green rim-color.
The nose is strong with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is intense and delightful, with notes of sweet fruits and honey – white nectarine, white pear, white apple, mango, pineapple, white cherry, white mulberry and early may honey – all of this mixed together and served as a fresh summer scent.
The wine is medium-dry, with some hints of residual sugar, moderate alcohol and moderate acidity. It makes the wine taste smooth, noble and round. Medium tannin makes it taste a little green, like a green olive – savory and refreshing. The overall balance is good – friendly, bright and refined – like a summer rain on a bright sunny day.
The wine has a long finish and a velvety-crisp aftertaste, it tastes noble, fresh and zesty at the same time.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that this is the only white wine made of red grapes in Moldova, and, to be honest, you will not find many white wines made of cabernet sauvignon grapes on international scene either. On our part, we can only admire the winemaker’s courage and determination to create something remarkable and different, for being different is to be special, while being special is to have personality, and this wine clearly has it.
