WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
Even though winter holidays are long gone by, why not enjoy the spring with a very special crémant Wine of Moldova. It is special because it is made in an authentic méthode traditionelle style, exactly the same way as original champagne is being made in France, it is special because it is made of 100% pinot noir grapes, a wine-making style called ‘blanc de noirs‘ and it is special because it is made by the largest winemaker in Moldova – Grand Vintage Brut 2007 from Cricova.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a pure yellow color, slightly into the gold side of the spectrum, with a very clear yellow rim color.
The nose is strong and clean, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose bring notes of sweet fruits: pineapple, white pear, yellow apple and quince. Later on, the bouquet evolve into some bitter-sweet aromas of green walnuts and vanilla, all of that fading out with just a hint of dried dates and dried banana.
The wine is dry-plus with moderate, well integrated, alcohol level. High acidity, a very important element of every crémant wine, is very nicely preserved after so many years of bottle age and, in tandem with medium tannin, form a very beautiful, delightful overall balance. The wine tastes refreshing and elegant, with a well distinguished crisp and bitter accent.
The wine has a long, complex but velvety aftertaste with a traditional buttery finish. It tastes of underripe walnuts and fresh lemons: crisp and bitter at the same time, it will fill your mouth with a very pleasant feeling – so delightful, that you cannot resist one more sip, and then one more, until you finish out that one bottle.
This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, this wine was already awarded a silver medal at the most prestigious wine contest for sparkling wines – Effervescents du Monde, and this is no small feat. But when you take into consideration that this is a 2007 harvest wine, this accolade grows in value even more. That aside, we’ll be honest – this is a great wine indeed and the price is set accordingly, but let’s be honest, this is no everyday wine – that’s a special wine meant for special occasions, and it’s worth the penny.
