WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

We continue to review Wine of Moldova, but we change the vector again, this time towards the white wine theme, and because the summer is in full swing, why not try some sauvignon blanc. The wine that we’ve selected for today’s tasting is growing in popularity with each passing day, so we’ve decided to give it a go as long as it is still young and beautiful fresh – Sauvignon de Purcari 2014 from Chateau Purcari.

Olfactory

The nose is strong, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is amazingly intense and it brings notes of sweet fruits mixed with some citrus and some savory notes – sweet melon, green pear, cucumber, quince, pineapple, apricot, kiwi, gooseberry, green bean, straw grass and a hint of lemon. This wine smells of pure summer delight, with an amazingly fruit-flavored profile.

Gustatory

The wine is dry, with no hints of residual sugar. It has moderate alcohol level and very high acidity, which makes the wine taste a bit tart, a bit sharp, but crisp, fruity and refreshing. The wine also has dry tannin, which makes it taste a bit bitter, but quite refined and elegant. The overall balance is good, it resembles a well made new-world sauvignon blanc, with a nuanced, rich and delicious profile.

Aftertaste

The wine has a long finish and a velvety, just a bit tart and a bit bitter aftertaste, but here’s a hint for this summer – pair every sip of this wine with a bite of a fresh apricot and you’ll feel some magic in your mouth – the acidity in the wine is neutralized perfectly by the sweetness of the peach.
