WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to review Wine of Moldova and we’re still on the white wine theme, but this time it’s time for some riesling wine. It is not difficult to find riesling wine around here, but it is a bit tricky to find some good riesling thou, as there is not yet a definite style of this wine highlighted, that’s why every winemaker is trying to perform as best as he knows. The wine that we are going to review tonight is Riesling 2012 from Berhord-Vin-Molda.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a bright, transparent and pure straw-yellow color, with the rim-color of a brilliant green shade.
The nose is rich with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is quite insistent and it brings notes of citrus fruits and sweet fruits – white grapefruit, quince, lemon, gooseberry, pamela, green apple, green bell pepper and a hint of white apricot. The end is filled with strong notes of straw grass and rubber – the two aromas that may be found almost in every Grand Cru d’Alsace riesling wine.
The wine is medium-dry, with no hints of residual sugar. It has moderate alcohol and quite high acidity, which makes the wine taste crisp, smooth and lean. Soft tannin makes it taste a little bit wide and round, but quite fresh and friendly. The overall balance is good with a well structured body that makes you realize that this is a refined, fine riesling wine.
The wine has a long-minus finish with a velvety, a bit tart, aftertaste – it tastes of pure elegance and would pair well with some brie cheese.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.2 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, even though this wine is not yer very well known in Moldova, on the international scene it has already been awarded a commended accolade at International Wine Challenge – one of the leading wine tasting competitions in the world of wine. All in all, we’ve been quite impressed by this one – a very friendly and refreshing summer wine, that will appease the most spoiled taste preferences. If anything, it is a riesling wine after all, with quite nuanced rubber-petroleum notes – a quality that is most common for Grand Cru d’Alsace riesling wines.
