WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to review Wine of Moldova, but we change the vector a bit towards the white wine theme, and because the summer days are still fresh in our memory, why not try some refreshing sauvignon blanc wine. The wine that we’ve selected for today’s tasting is fresh released on the marked and is growing in popularity with each passing day, so we’ve decided to give it a go as long as it is still in its prime – Sauvignon Blanc 2014 from Et Cetera.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:

Visual
The wine has a pure brilliant-green color, with a transparent yellowish rim-color.

Olfactory
The nose is strong, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is amazingly intense and it brings notes of sweet fruits mixed with some citrus: quince, yellow pear, lemon, yellow apple, yellow mirabelle, a bit of white cherry, straw grass and a hint of pineapple. This wine smells of mid-summer – it’s so pure and innocent, like the smile of a newborn child, like the wind before the rain.

Gustatory
The wine is dry, with no hints of residual sugar. It has moderate alcohol level, quite high acidity and dry tannin, which makes the wine taste bittercrisp, rich and fresh, with a well balanced minerality. The overall balance is good, the wine tastes elegant and quite refreshing, it resembles a well made new-world sauvignon blanc, with a nuanced, rich and delicious, profile.

Aftertaste
The wine has a long finish and a velvety, a bit zesty and a bit bitter, aftertaste, which smoothens with each passing second, turning into a mouth-watering desire to take one more sip, and then one more.
This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.8 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that this is a world-class sauvignon blanc wine, that is truly leaving up to its first name – ‘sauvage’, which means ‘wild’. The flavor profile is balancing on a thin line between sweet and citrus fruits, while on the palate it is almost impossible to distinguish the dominant profile – it is crispness, or it can be bitterness, the dominant vector that takes over your taste buds. The deeper one dives in, the better – pair this wine with some sweet summer fruits, like nectarine, peach or, why not, a mango and you will discover the charming power of a new world sauvignon blanc wine – just magic.

I tasted this week. You are right, it is a great wine that must try. In my opinion it has a little more acidity for my taste. I give it 87 points.

We also noticed the dominant acidity, like in a top quality sauvignon blanc from the new world, but there are also the famous and still unrivaled fumé blanc from France – those are the ones with balanced acidity, and we will try to get one for the sake of comparison.
Thank you for the feedback! ^_^
