WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We are still discovering Wine of Moldova for the time being and this time we’ve decided to review something different, the time has come for a sparkling wine – Spumant Clasic Brut Roz 2012 from Château Vartely. It is made in an authentic méthode traditionelle style, exactly the same way as original champagne is being made in France, and it is made of 100% pinot noir grapes.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a clear salmon-pink color, with the rim color of a clear, onion-orange hue.
The nose is rich and clean, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is sharp and insistent, and it brings notes of jam and sweet fruits: strawberry jam, red grapefruit, sweet cherry, watermelon, pomegranate, cranberry, red mirabelle, strawberry and a hint of raspberry.
The wine is dry to medium dry, with moderate, well integrated, alcohol level. It has high acidity, a quite important element for a crémant wine, and dry tannin, which makes the wine taste bittersweet, elegant and fresh. The overall balance is good to very good, the wine tastes quite jammy, delicious and lean at the same time.
The wine has a long-minus, but velvety aftertaste. It is a bit shorter than expected, but quite refined and pleasant.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.5 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that even though the regular wine consumer rarely spends his money on a dry sparkling wine, the one we’ve tasted tonight is a real standout – a sparkling wine that breaks all the stereotypes: rosé, dry, made of 100% pinot noir grapes – what else can we ask for, in a cold, autumn night? This wine is a fine example of how good a sparkling wine from Moldova can be at its peak. Did we mention that sparkling wine is a very good pairing partner for a wide range of foods? Just try it yourself and you will be amazed as much as we are.
