EQUINOX | Cabernet Sauvignon | 2009
cabernet sauvignon
WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to review Wine of Moldova and we are heading towards the cabernet sauvignon theme – the most in-demand grape variety of the world these days. A good cabernet sauvignon wine is not a hard find anymore, even here in Moldova, that’s why, we’ve turned our attention to an already discounted wine, but one that can still be found on the wine racks – Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 from Equinox.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
Visual
The wine has a clear garnet color, just a bit hazy – the color of overripe sour cherries, with the rim-color of a clear ruby shade.
Olfactory
The nose is clean and strong, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose brings very clear and nuanced notes of red fruits: sour cherry, red cherry, red plum, red currant, and cranberry. A bit later comes secondary notes of dried cranberry, red pepper and a hint of light-roasted wood.
Gustatory
The wine is medium dry, with some hints of residual sugar. It has moderate, very well integrated alcohol level, high acidity and medium tannin. This is a friendly, lean and easy to drink wine – sour-crisp, round and a bit opulent. The wine has a good overall balance – it feels smooth and fruit-forward.
Aftertaste
The wine has a long finish and velvety-smooth aftertaste. It is light and sour towards the end, but it leaves a quite pleasing feeling overall.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 88.8 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, we would like to mention that this is a wine that can be considered past it’s prime, just a step away from being an oldie, as a result it should be treated like an old wine. Our recommendation is to decant it before serving, but not for too long (25-30 minutes will be more than enough) and serve it at room temperature in order to experience it’s full aromatic potential.
