We will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss our reviews. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations.

Today we are going to perform a trip into the past and re-evaluate one of the best single-varietal cabernet sauvignon wines that were ever made in Moldova – Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 by Equinox. This is a wine that we hold dear to our hearts, as it showcased the real potential of cabernet sauvignon variety grown on the south-facing slopes in the famous Stefan Voda region. Cabernet Sauvignon is grown all over the world in a wide range of climates and by default it produces full-bodied red wines with dark fruit flavors and spice and it is the variety that responds amazingly well to oak ageing. That said, without further ado, let’s take a look at the wine tasting results.

96x96This is definitely a good wine of Moldova and, with a total of 89.9 points scored, this wine is right there, among the best wines we’ve rated so far. Check our complete database on the wine rating page, where you can find all the wines that we have tasted and reviewed or go to the about us page and find out more about our exquisite rating system.

Verdict: this is fine example of a cabernet sauvignon wine that is long past its prime – round, supple and lean, a wine with a nuanced fruity-savory accent with overripe red fruits and mesmerizing studded leather hints. With fine-grained tannins, mouth-watering acidity and a touch of alcoholic burnt on the mouthfeel, the wine feels noble and fine, overwhelmed by tertiary flavours and a crisp finale. The balance of this wine is amazing, as it does feel harmonious and noble – a living legend indeed. Enjoy it today rather than tomorrow and don’t forget to decant/aerate it before serving (25-30 minutes will do the job just fine) in order to unleash all those hidden tertiary flavours and serve it at room temperature, about 16-18°. Cheers!
