WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We are still discovering Wine of Moldova for the time being and because winter holidays are right around the corner, why not switch to the crémant wine theme. The wine that we’ve chosen for the review tonight is – Cuvée Prestige Brut Alb from Cricova. This wine is made in a classic, méthode champenoise style, exactly the same way as original champagne is being made in France, with the sole exception that there is no pinot meunier grape variety in it, instead, it is made up of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot blanc.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a pure straw-yellow color, with some pearl shades on the rim.
The nose is strong and insistent, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is sharp and nuanced, and it bring notes of sweet fruits & citrus: yellow pear, green apple, gooseberry, grapefruit, pomelo, quince, straw grass, vanilla and a hint of apricot.
The wine is dry, with moderate, well integrated alcohol level, high acidity and medium tannin. It tastes bitter-tart, green and savory at the same time. It feels a bit angular, but quite refreshing and elegant. The wine has a good overall balance, with acidity being the dominant element.
The wine has a long, velvety-crisp aftertaste – it is a bit bitter and a bit tart, but quite refined and refreshing.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.7 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that this wine has been awarded a silver medal by Effervescents du Monde – the leading wine-tasting contest for sparkling wines, a bronze medal by International Wine & Spirit Competition, a commended award by International Wine Challenge and another commended award by Decanter World Wine Awards – some of the most prestigious wine tasting competitions in the world of wine. Quite impressive for a Wine of Moldova, and it speaks volumes about the quality of this wine. Did we mention that sparkling wine is a very good pairing partner for a wide range of foods? Just try it yourself – you will be as much amazed as we are – Ho-Ho-Ho! Merry Christmas!
