WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to review Wine of Moldova and we are still on the white wine theme, and yet again, we are still discovering the noblest of all whites – the royal chardonnay wine. In order to explore this wine style at it’s true potential, we’ve decided to dig deeper inside our wine vault for a wine, that is regarded as a classic oaked chardonnay from Moldova – Taraboste Pur Aristocratic Chardonnay 2012 from Château Vartely.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a pure straw-yellow color, with a translucent, pale topaz-yellow rim-color.
The nose is rich, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is light and insistent, as it brings delightful notes of sweet summer fruits mixed with some nuanced savory flavors: apple, straw, moist wood, lemon, yellow bell pepper, pear and some delicate hints of chalkstone. The end is topped with a very subtle aroma of honeycomb.
The wine is medium-dry, with some hints of residual sugar. It has a high alcohol level and high acidity. It tastes silky and elegant, smooth and quite savory, with nuanced herbaceous notes. Medium tannin level makes it taste woody, round and a bit lean. The wine has a fair overall balance, which makes it feel muscular and refined.
The wine has a medium finish and a balanced-velvety aftertaste, maybe just a bit sharp, but quite pleasant overall.
This is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.2 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that this is a classic, barrel fermented chardonnay, full-bodied, with delicate buttery-oily notes. This wine already caught the eye of international critics alike, as one of the previous vintages has been awarded a silver medal by Mundus Vini International Wine Award – one of the world’s most influential wine-tasting competition, which says quite a lot about this wine’s overall quality and potential. We would recommend to par it with any seafood based pasta meals – Bon Appétit
