WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.

We continue to review Wine of Moldova and we still keep up with the white wine theme, but this time we are going to review a famous white blend. This wine is so popular that it needs no introduction. It is a wine best enjoyed under the starry skies, a wine that is nothing less than a bottled constellation – Illustro Rezerva 2011 from F’autor.

Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:

The wine has a pure yellow color, with a translucent topaz-yellow fill and a rim-color with brilliant-green shades.

The nose is rich with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is intense and elegant, with nuanced notes of sweet fruits and citrus – yellow apple, lemon, pear, gooseberry, pineapple, apple and apricot blossom, jasmine and a hint of acacia flower. After a while, the second nose brings some noble notes of butter, cream and vanilla – a clear hint that the wine was barrel maturated.

The wine is dry, with no hints of residual sugar. It has moderate alcohol level, moderate acidity and medium tannin, which makes the wine taste crisp, seedy and green. This is a silky and well structured wine, with a fair overall balance, which makes it taste round, firm and expressive – it smells of summer and stone-fruit blossom.

The wine has a medium finish and a balanced aftertaste – it feels oaky, persistent and complex at the same time.

chartsThis is definitely a fine Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 89.9 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that this is a wine that compounds with great success a classic, buttery chardonnay, blended with some aromatic riesling and finished with a savory sauvignon blanc. The final result is mesmerizing: the chardonnay brings smoothness and finesse, riesling adds tropical fruits and minerality, while sauvignon blanc comes up with some hints of wilderness, that transforms the wine into a fresh and easy to drink summer infusion – a galactic pleasure.
