WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We will continue reviewing Wine of Moldova for the time being, and we are still on the rosé wine theme for a reason – we believe it’s the perfect wine for bidding farewell to the lost summer days on those chilly and windy nights. The wine we’ve chosen for the review today is so popular that it needs no further introduction – Rosé de Purcari 2015 from Chateau Purcari.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has an eye-pleasing, fine peach-pink color, with the rim-color of a clear salmon shade.
The nose is strong and delicious, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose brings strong notes of sweet fruits and berries: strawberry, raspberry, watermelon, sicilian orange, red grapefruit, mango, peach, apricot and green cherry – all the smells of spring and summer, mixed up inside your glass.
The wine is dry with no hints of residual sugar. It has high alcohol level, a bit higher than expected from a rosé wine, high-plus acidity and dry tannin, which makes the wine taste fresh, bitter-crisp and zesty. The wine has a fair overall balance, as it feels quite delicious, elegant and fruity – this is a wine that can dominate over you from the first sip to the very last one, you just can’t deny it, no matter how hard you try.
The wine has medium-plus finish with a velvety, but at the same time a bit sharp, aftertaste – you may compare it to an arrogant, but honest and trustworthy old friend of yours.
This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.4 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, we would really want to highlight that fact that this wine has been already awarded a bronze medal by Decanter World Wine Awards, the world’s most famous wine-tasting competition – quite an achievement for a Wine of Moldova. At the same time, we’ve decided not to mention all the accolades that were awarded to the previous vintages of this same wine, but the list is quite impressive. To sum it up – this is definitely one of the best rosé wines we’ve tasted to date, and it is definitely there, at the summit, just remember to enjoy it young.
