WineStatistics will be evaluating wines in no particular order on no particular schedule. Just stay tuned and you will never miss one. If the wine is tasted more than once, the rating table will be updated so as to reflect all the new impressions and observations. The logic is simple – the more we taste, the more we learn.
We continue to review Wine of Moldova, but we change the vector a bit towards the white wine theme. The wine that we’ve selected for today’s tasting is quite well known here in Moldova and is growing in popularity on the international scene as well, so we’ve decided to give it a go, because why not – Sauvignon Blanc 2014 from Albastrele Wines.
Let’s take a deeper look at the tasting notes and the wine’s review statistics:
The wine has a pure, greenish-yellow color: a brilliant topaz-yellow with translucent green shades.
The nose is strong, with no signs of wine faults. The first nose is delicate and insistent, with nuanced savory notes, sweet fruits and citrus: green grass, green pear, green bell pepper, straw grass, green apple, lemon, underripe quince, gooseberry, sour leaf and some hints of cucumber.
The wine is dry, with no hints of residual sugar. It has moderate alcohol level, high acidity and medium-plus tannin, which makes the wine taste zesty, fresh and savory, with some nuanced seedy-green accents. The overall balance is good, this is a crisp, smooth and noble wine, which casts memories of countryside, with notes of green grass, bell pepper and straw. This wine is noting less than a flashback into the mid-summer.
The wine has a medium finish and a balanced aftertaste, oily and bitter at the same time.
This is definitely a great Wine of Moldova and the overall rating says the same, with 90.0 points scored it is right there, among the best wines we’ve tasted so far. Last but not least, it is to be mentioned that this is a top sauvignon blanc wine, that is truly leaving up to its first name – ‘sauvage’, which means wild. Also, there’s a reason to be proud of – this wine was well appreciated outside of Moldova‘s borders, it has been appreciated with a commended award by Decanter World Wine Awards, the most influential wine tasting competition in the world of wine. More than that, previous vintages of this same wine has been also highly appreciated with a total of 11 awards at most prestigious wine contests around the world – an achievement that cannot be underestimated, and one that speaks of the quality-over-the-years aspect, a feat that Wine of Moldova can be proud of.
